Corey Seager's Two Homers Lead Rangers to Win Over Pirates

Seager's First-Inning Home Run Key in Rangers Victory

Corey Seager homered twice and drove in four runs, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon. Seager's first home run, a solo shot in the first inning, gave the Rangers an early lead they would not relinquish.

Ortiz Pitches Well, But Homers Prove Costly

Pittsburgh starter Luis Ortiz matched his career high with seven strikeouts but allowed three runs on four hits in six innings. Ortiz's seven strikeouts matched his total from his previous two starts combined.

However, Seager's homer in the first inning put the Pirates in an early hole. Ortiz also allowed a solo homer to Rangers' catcher Jonah Heim in the third inning and a sacrifice fly to Brad Miller in the sixth.

Seager Continues to Fuel Rangers' Offense

Seager's two home runs give him six in his last seven games. He has also driven in 16 runs during that span, helping the Rangers climb out of the AL West cellar.

With the win, the Rangers snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 31-39 on the season. The Pirates, meanwhile, fell to 25-45, the worst record in the National League.
